The most important day of the year, for me.

30 10 2008

Weather: High: 59 Degrees and sunny!

Today is Brian and my third wedding anniversary. It’s so funny because we’ve known each other for 13 years now that it seems like we’ve been married longer. And I mean that in the best possible sense.

Bri is one of those rare individuals that is just as quirky and off the mainstream as I am. We are not exactly known for our mundane interests. We both loathe sports and love Bollywood films. We love fringe bands. (Hell we danced to a Pizzicato Five song for our wedding!) We love sci fi movies from the cheesy to the sublime, but aren’t the typical fanboy/fangirl. Yeah we like the Star Wars trilogy, but we prefer Dune and Solaris and Sunshine.Again with the weird and unusual. We can pretty much talk about any topic, but we like to listen to others talk about things as well. We’re both knowledge sponges. Maybe that’s why we never get bored with each other. Then there’s our sense of humor. We were both raised by european parents, so that informs our humor. And we were both raised on a steady diet of British comedy, so we appreciate everything from the sarcastic to the snarky to the slapstick. And we make each other laugh. A lot. And I think that’s a big key to our success. We can keep each other in stitches all the time. I just love him to distraction.

So with that in mind, and Halloween tomorrow, which incidentally is the SECOND most important day to me, I am in a very good mindset.

I just got some sobering news from a co-worker. She’s heading into her 4th round of cancer. And it’s progressive. Having watched several of my family members succumb to this horrible disease, I’m heartbroken for her and her family.  This just brings the whole, don’t waste a single day doing nothing philosophy home.

Have been listening to the new Snow Patrol (well samples) and the new Shiny Toy Guns (Less synthpop, more guitars and new female lead. It’s growing on me) and I managed to get my hands on the two Three Days Grace albums finally. Woot! So I have a plethora of music to listen to on the way home.

Also wicked awesome article on Steampunk at this link.

Love that both the subgenre and Abney Park are getting some attention. The band is amazing even set apart from the Steampunk grouping.

Heading home to spend some quality time with the hubby.

Have a good evening everyone!

T-minus 2 days. Wedding Apocalypse…BLISS I MEAN BLISS!

15 10 2008

weather: High 63 degrees with intermittent rain.

Well, we’ve reached the apathy stage of our wedding progress. We’re all kinda burnt out and tired. Kirsten has finally reached the Zen stage, thank the gods. We’re all on the “Can’t wait till it’s over” bandwagon. I think my mom is the only one really stressed out right now.

Bri and I are exhausted, but I think some of that will start to alleviate once this wedding
debacle is over with. Bri had an interview today so we’re keeping our fingers crossed. No more- don’t want to jinx it.

Am catching up with True Blood and Supernatural, as I missed both last week. Also, am neck deep in demos and bonus tracks and little bootlegs I’m finding all over zee webs.

High recommendations for my friend Jack’s side project, Eventual Champions. Sound is reminiscent of Jesus & Mary Chain  and the shoegazers. FANTASTIC! Also, in addition to my lovely Abney Park, I’m currently obsessing about listening to Deadly Nightshade Botanical Society. Excellent band, sounds similar to AP but with added Vas-ness if you will. Again, AMAZING! Also am getting into Dr. Steel, who if I play my cards right, will allow me to join the ranks of the Toy Soldiers when he takes over the world.  He’s been aptly described as “HipHop Industrial Opera”. Who am I to argue? Unique and entertaining as hell. Hopefully I’ll have some Shortwave Dahlia news for y’all shortly.

Gotta dash, but here– have a vid!:
Dr. Steel — Back & Forth (live) (WITH PUPPETS!)

(I know I’ve posted this before, but I LOVE THEM)

Garmarna —En Gång Ska Han Gråta

Is it Monday already? SERIOUSLY? Gah.

29 09 2008

Weather: High: 69 degrees (WOO!) and some rain. (Cue Paranoia)

First off– Steampunk is recognized by MTV? Cue one year of bandwagon hoppers before its settles back down again. However, interview with Abney Park? FTW!!

This weekend kind of sucked on a number of levels, mostly due to personal drama.Without being all emo and revelatory, let’s just say that both Bri and my family have snapped the proverbial camel’s back with all the drama and it’s time we moved on. So, we’re getting the minor repairs done on the house and in the Spring, we’re putting the house on the market. Done and done.

This whole economic clusterfuck is starting to get a little too close to home for my comfort. I’m disgusted by the government in it’s entirety. Both parties. Neither seem to be able to set aside their petty squabbling or their own fucking interests in favor of getting this problem resolved. Wall Street needs to STFU and DEAL with the situation they created. As my mum is fond of saying, it’s time to pay the piper. And the American people, who have already been put through the thresher for the past 5 years as it is, are not gonna fall for the same old business as usual crap. Or are they gonna lie down and take it from the corporate big boys. Guess what, Wall Street and Washington? The American people are fed up, exhausted, broke and JUST NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE.

Heroes tonight, thank the gods!

Running off home as I have a bajillion things to do!

More tomorrow!

Oh thank the benevolent deities! Tis the end of the week!

Weather: High– 76 degrees and sunny. So beautiful outside right now!

Your result for The Steampunk Style Test…

The Ragamuffin

29% Elegant, 34% Technological, 37% Historical, 32% Adventurous and 54% Playful!

You are the Ragamuffin, the embodiment of steampunk playfulness. Chances are, you approach the genre from a much more casual and lighthearted standpoint than most other fans. To you, there is always an element of play inherent in the genre, and you may very well enjoy fashion as much for the opportunity to dress up as for the style itself. You probably wear goggles as an accessory, and rarely as actual eye-protection. Your outfits are likely to incorporate a lot of brown or cream, and combine large boots, Victorian corsets or vests, aviator caps or bowler hats, and gypsy skirts or slacks, simply because you like them all.

(Yes, this is what I want to be when I don’t grow up!)

Olympic squee is summed up thusly: Michael Phelps- Gold Medal #6 + Chummy pics with Ryan Lochte after the race? Heidi essplosions! (Evidence follows)

Dear gods above, thank you Olympics Photogs for providing boy-touching pics for us!!!
AMEN!

As previously mentioned, this weekend is gonna be a lot of running around. I have to get the grocery shopping done and pick up a gift for my mum. We’re going over to Lisa and Tom’s for dinner then heading out to The Dark Knight in IMAX. WOOT! Sunday is over to my sisters house for makeup test in the morning and birthday dinner for my mum in the evening. Hopefully by then I won’t be wanting to claw my uterus out. Yes, TMI I know.

Tonight will be more Olympics viewing, much to my husband’s chagrin. But it’s a big one. Phelps may tie Spitz’s record and thus finally drive a stake in all the speculation. Of course the bastards won’t be satisfied unless he BEATS Spitz’ s record. And come 4 years from now, they won’t be satisfied if he doesn’t break his own record. Poor guy can’t cut a break to save his life.

Was a little sad to hear that Pieter Van Den Hoogenband has chosen to retire after this Olympics, which has now knocked out 2 of the 3 of my holy trinity from Athens 2004. (Ian Thorpe retired in 2006. SIGH)  SO now I must look to Lochte and Berens to maintain the trio of hotness. Yes I am just that shallow. ::grins::

TGIFF: Thank the Gods its F**king Friday!

8 08 2008

Weather: Hight today 76 degrees and partly sunny. Very nice because the humidity’s buggered off!

Man this has been the week that never ends! For some reason all the storm carnage seemed months ago, until Bri and I drove through Munster, IN and saw all the blue tarp covered houses and literally EVERY street had half a tree at the curb in from of every house. And Munster was light compared to what happened in Griffith. Still…OY! what a mess.

The in-laws are almost at the signing for their condo and will have their house on the market soon. We will probably be doing what we can to help them get packed up and moved. We are getting 2  fridges out of the deal so there is no complaint here! (One for the basement and one for the kitchen. Our kitchen one likes to go into defrost mode for no reason. Thus the need for replacement. )

OFF TOPIC: What the hell?? Apparently Russia just invaded Georgia!!! And ironically the news is doing a crap job of covering it. Sigh.

Also, I need to stop reading political blogs. They’re starting to give me a monster migraine. Sheer blundering idiots–ALL of them. SIGH. When we have mainstream press trying to proffer the question of whether Obama is the Anti-Christ? There is not enough head-desk in the world. I am gonna be SO happy when theis election is over, regardless of who wins, just so I don’t have to hear about it again.

On the YAY side of the fence–Tonight is the Opening Ceremonies for the Beijing Olympics. Granted they already happened (what with China being all the way on the other side of the planet and all) but It will be cool nonetheless to see the ceremony on telly tonight. And tomorrow, my sprockets, we have SWIMMING! (ZOMG!Michael Phelps!) . This weekend is gonna be a bit wonky. I need to get out to see my mum and sister about some things for the bridal shower and the upcoming wedding. I’m having a bit of a panic attack seeing how close everything is. I have GOT to lose the weight before the wedding. Now I only have 2 months. DAMN PROCRASTINATION!!!

I think I’m reaching that point where I need to remove myself from conversations about politics and world events again. I have a throbbing headache right now after an extended convo with my mum. we don’t see eye to eye on a lot of things political, but between that rather highly strung convo and the barrage of stuff hitting the blogs about John Edward’s affair and Obama and McCain’s back and forth and the constant CONSTANT stream of bad news globally…yeah. Had my fill. With exception to the Olympics I think I’m gonna leave the news out of the viewing loop for this weekend. I have enough to stress about right now and, while I know I should be concerned about things, I really don’t have the energy right now to spare for it.

So my friend Lisa has told me that she’s toying with the idea of a Steampunk wedding when she and her lifemate Tom decide to tie the proverbial knot. I don’t think there will be an end to the squeeing on my part if it pans out!!! After my sister’s wedding this October, there are going to be a lot of interesting changes in my lifestyle, health and fashion. I’ve reached that point of being sick of how I look, knowing that I’ve been doing the “comfortable clothes for work” thing for too long. I also realized I’m backsliding into that dangerous area of fashion known as “Soccer Mom”– ::Shudders:: — which no amount of black nail polish can counter act and that must STOP! So–first we must get into shape. Corsets are not fun when you have bulges in the wrong areas! Also, Manic Panic, Kambriel and BPAL will be getting more of my business. Got the new issue of Gothic Beauty magazine yesterday and found a lot of inspiration in that. So did Brian. As in he found inspiration in things that he’d like to see me in and then out of. LOL!

So  a lot of changes on the horizon, both internal and external. We are still wanting to start a family, if my bloody plumbing would get with the program!

Anyway–This weekend will be busy and I will probably not get much done in the online world. That is not necessarily a bad thing. Hopefully I WILL get some more writing done. I’ve been averaging about 1000 words a night across various manuscripts.

Come Monday, I hope a lot of this stress will be alleviated. SIGH.
